Jordie, the German Shepherd from Jordan, Needs Corrective Foot Surgery INTERNET/MEDIA NEWS RELEASE [Don't forget to read Jordie's message] -- click for UPDATES -- Saturday, July 26, 2003 CONTACT: Four Paws Trail at fourpawstrail@provide.net |
A caring individual volunteering at a Jordanian Humane Society approached Four Paws Trail to assist in bringing this lovely dog to the U.S. for corrective surgery on his front paws, raising funds to pay for his surgery and care, and also finding him a good home in the U.S. This lovely German Shepherd, Jordie, arrives in the U.S. from Jordan on Saturday, July 26.
His malformed front paws can be seen in the photos attached and his chances of finding a home in Jordan with this malformation are next to zero. | Please help this sweet dog get the surgery he needs.
|
Upon arrival in the U.S. his greeter estimated him to be under a year old and about 45 lb in weight. Our new canine resident is very gentle, has a delightful disposition and temperament, is timid and sweet, and gets along well with other animals. Presently Jordie has room and board through next Wednesday at which point it is hoped his surgery will take place in Michigan. Plans are presently underway to bring this to fruition.
The cost of the surgery which will correct the malformation is in the
region of $2,000 per leg and other veterinary costs will most likely be
added to that. After surgery, Jordie will have a lengthy recuperation after
which he will need a loving home right here in the U.S. |

Close up of front feet |
If Jordie could speak our language, here's what I think he would say to us . . . A MESSAGE FROM JORDIE |
My back hurts with the strain
Of my front paws buckling under me.
I see other dogs and wonder why
I cannot walk like they do.
I yearn for someone to love me
But why would they want me
When all they see his my deformity
And my awkward and funny walk.
I came into this world
To love and to have fun
Yet in my barely one year of life
All I have known is pain and heartache.
Life's been hard since the day I was born
No real offers to give me a home
My prospects were bleak and life seemed short
And all because of the way I walk.
I have not known what it is like
To run after a ball
Or play something called "fetch".
I've had no real home in which to rest
And no one to care for my wounds.
I have not known what it's like to have regular meals
And I don't know what "treats" are.
I have never had my very own bed - or toys - or bones
And no master to call my own.
Now I am afraid because I see a chance
For me to have a life
But I cannot do this by myself.
I SO much want to fit in and be loved
But that means I need someone to help me.
|
Can each of you love me enough
To help . . . just a little?
Just enough for me to have
That chance at life?
Maybe then - just maybe
Someone would see me and think I am
A fine-looking young pup and get to know me
And offer me a home where I can finally rest
. . . after SUCH a long journey!
Oh, I SO want this chance!
Will you help me? I promise
I will make you all SO proud of me!

UPDATE 9/23/03 "Surgery is currently being scheduled for the first paw - stay tuned." |
UPDATE 9/3/03 You wouldn't believe how much your efforts are helping Jordie get his
surgery!!! Today we pipped the $4,000 mark - two-thirds of the way
towards the goal (although I want to raise $7,000 so we can pay for his
water therapy after the surgery to increase the muscle mass in his paws as
it is his paws that will bear his weight).
Presently, this lovely dog waits patiently for the day he can be a pup and
do the things that other dogs have always been able to do - and he has not.
He loves to be outside exploring but at the moment he cannot stand for long
and lies down on the ground. For the moment he has to continue to walk on
the equivalent of his wrists in the front. Can you imagine having to
support your body on your wrists? This is why the muscle mass in his paws
is not built up the way it should be - and why he needs the water therapy
afterwards.
Jordie knows we will not let him down - I KNOW he does!!! As each day
passes I see clearly the day he walks into the clinic for his
surgery. That day is getting closer for Jordie.
With all your caring, kind, and generous efforts, this WILL happen. All we
have to do is pip the $6,000 mark. For as far as we have come, we do not
have very far to go to reach this goal.
Keep Jordie in your daily prayers and envision him strong and well and
enjoying life the way he should be.
Over the next few days I will write about his specific condition and let
you know more about the procedure that needs to be done.

INTERNET/MEDIA RELEASE
August 19, 2003 Jordie, the lovely young German Shepherd who was flown to the U.S. to have corrective surgery performed on his malformed front paws is halfway towards his goal.
After veterinary examinations were performed by an orthopedic surgeon, it
was estimated that the cost of surgery would be in the neighborhood of
$6,000. We are happy to announce that donations to date have tipped the
halfway mark. Jordie is now halfway towards receiving the surgery that
will allow him to walk unhampered and be able to lead a normal life.
Plans are underway to implement Phase Two of the fundraising campaign in
order to cover the remainder of the cost of the surgery as well as
follow-up veterinary costs that are likely to be incurred during the
six-month rehabilitation period.
We are delighted to announce these results. It is heart-warming to see so
many people come forward to help Jordie. Not only are monetary donations
being received, but people are offering items that can be sold on eBay with
the proceeds going towards the cost of the surgery. We still have a way to
go to meet the $6,000 goal but as Jordie continues to touch the hearts of
the public, we remain very hopeful that it is just a matter of time before
the balance is raised.
Although it is perhaps a few days too early to see Jordie's items for sale
on eBay, you will be able to see them at the following site: http://www.stores.ebay.com/id=25238090
The proceeds from the sale of the items are considered "donations" and,
since the FVEAP (Feline Veterinary Emergency Assistance Program) is doing
the accounting for the donations, they have agreed to sell Jordie's items
on their own eBay site. All items that are entered for sale for Jordie
will be clearly marked as such. |
UPDATE 8/11/03 "According to the surgeon, Jordie's feet can be corrected. The cost is in the neighborhood of $6,000 and he will require six months' of recuperation. We ask that you search your hearts and souls and give as generously as you can to Jordie. It is, after all, "a precious life" and a wonderful animal! At Four Paws Trail, we have often said, "If everyone would give a little - if only just once - we could help so many!" and, with this philosophy, we have indeed worked some miracles. Please help us bring about a miracle in Jordie's life." |

(Note: Four Paws Trail praises the Humane Center for Animal Welfare in Amman, Jordan for their tremendous efforts while working under such extreme conditions and with so little money. Their efforts do not go unnoticed.)
