Forest

Blackie (Forest Gump) - is approximately 14 years old now. He was the last of the 15 cats to be rescued from a boarded up home in the winter of 1995. Blackie just did not want to leave his home and it took us 1 1/2 months to catch him. Black is the sweetest cat, he is declawed and has a walking disability. This poor cat was left on the street to fend for himself after his elderly owner was put in a nursing home. Blackie is very happy with us. He enjoys the company of many feline companions. He is very affectionate and just a pleasure to have around.
Trixie

Trixie - also one of the 15 cats rescued in the winter of 1995. Trixie was so frightened when she was first rescued. She wouldn't come anywhere near us and felt secure perched on a ladder where she even ate her meals. After some time she began to trust us and she was moved into a cat room where she has many friends. She is now a very affectionate cat who enjoys being petted, just don't try to pick her up!
Valentine

Valentine - was rescued on Valentines day in 1995. Valentine was just a baby when she was discovered living under a food compactor outside of a Flushing Key Food. A woman who was feeding her told us that she would stick her head out to eat and then stay under the compacter all day and night. When we rescued Valentine her eyes were so sensitive to light and she was so scared that she ran around the room crying. She was a bundle of nerves and she would cry when you looked at her. Today Valentine is an extremely friendly and happy cat who loves to be petted. She knows her name and gets very excited when she hears it. She is a very dainty cat with tiny paws. She spends a lot of time with her best friend Amelia who is also a bundle of nerves.
Amelia

Amelia - also rescued in 1995. Amelia was just one of the many strays in the Flushing area. She had a companion Herby that somehow disappeared from the area shortly after mating with her. Amelia was a very nervous young cat but we managed to rescue her just before she gave birth the 4 baby boys. Once the boys were old enough Amelia preferred to spend time with her best friend Valentine. Today Amelia is still a bit nervous but she enjoys being petted and watching birds from the window.
Janet Jack Crissy

Janet, Jack and Crissy - 3 baby kittens rescued from a busy Flushing parking garage in 1995. Although they were tiny they were still very nervous and became more nervous as they got older. They are able to be petted but preferred to just be admired from a distance.Today Jack is still a bit nervous but friendly, Crissy is very quiet and keeps to herself and Janet who was extremely nervous is finally able to be petted and actually enjoys it.
Sunny Sandy Sunshine

Sunny (above left) & Sandy (above center) & Sunshine (above right) - all rescued in 1997 from the Whitestone area. These kittens were extremely frightenend. Sunny was very scared and ran away when you tried to approach him. Sandy was just nasty from day one. Today Sunny enjoys being petted and loves to play. He gets very excited when he sees us and rolls over on his back. Sandy is still nasty! Sunshine is a little more outgoing but still nervous.
Laura

Laura - rescued from Cunningham park in 1997 while searching for a lost cat. While Laura fit the description she was not the cat we were looking for. She was all alone in the middle of the big park. We felt bad when she began to follow us, so we took her home. It seemed, however, that Laura was a lot braver when she was outside in the park. Today Laura is still nervous but enjoys being petted from time to time. She gets along great with the other cats and is content just being in a home.
AJ

A.J. - rescued by a superintendant in a Flushing Apt. building in 1997. A.J. was found in a tied up paper bag and left with a pile of garbage. A.J. is partially blind but otherwise a beautiful, healthy and affectionate cat. A.J. was adopted by a very kind woman, however, she is now in very bad health and A.J. was returned to us. As a promise to his owner he will remain with us. A.J. has a room full of furry feline friends who keep him company.
Rex

Rex - rescued in July of 1998 from the Jackson Height area. Rex was one of a litter of 6. The kittens were very young and very sickly, we suspect the mother may have had distemper. Shortly after they were rescued 3 kittens died. We immediately began doing everything possible to save the 3 remaining kittens and we did. Two kittens were adopted together and the last kitten, Rex, remained with us. Rex was a special case because it seems that he was affected by the distemper. It was difficult for Rex to keep his balance and almost impossible for him to walk without falling over. With a whole lot of TLC and special care Rex grew into a healthy and handsome adult cat. Rex's walking has improved, however, he cannot jump or climb but he can walk up and down steps. Rex is very loveable and has 2 girlfriends that he spends lots of time with.
