 | Did you ever need someone so bad? Did you ever need someone that you knew that you could not have? Did you ever try so hard that your world just falls apart? If you did, then you would know how I felt about Charmed and what happened to my world. But I didn't always feel this way. This story is dedicated to Charmed, the cat that broke my heart. |

Dewey Two days later he was purring so hard when I held him before he started to eat. He was still purring as he went toward his food and then it happened, he started to choke again. After that he got upset and didn't want to eat. I tried forcing him to eat for a day by syringing him A/D. I guess he knew it was loaded with by-products because he spit it back up to me. Charmed wasn't into pills so he wanted no part of taking the prednisone pill the vet prescribed. I tried putting it in butter, which he gagged on. I tried a pill popper, which he took in his mouth with no problem until the pill came out and he spit it out. |

That Saturday night he didn't look very good. The funny thing was that when I opened the door to the other room his eyes lit up when he spotted his brother. He usually ran in to see him but this time he just strolled in to see TC. He sat down next to him and he laid his head along side TC. After a few seconds Charmed strolled back into his room. TC ran in and sat behind him. Muiesette followed TC, sitting behind Charmed and pawing at his tail. Then the rest of my cats came in and everyone sat down. The only cat that didn't come in was his one sister Beauty who was still getting used to being around the house. Little One, who normally prefers to be by herself, nuzzled Charmed, chased all of the other cats out of the room, and nuzzled Charmed again. As I look back, it all makes sense now but at the time I just didn't understand the strange behavior. |

Hobo The next morning I called Diane to tell her Charmed didn't look good. We decided that I should take him down to the hospital and leave him overnight until his visit the next day with the doctor. I packed some food and his Buba so he would feel at home. When we got there I looked into the carrier and he appeared okay. I told him I loved him and would be leaving him overnight but I would be back tomorrow for him. I walked him into the hospital and they took him away. They asked me for my approval for x-rays which I agreed to. When they asked me to go into a separate room I thought the doctor was going to tell me the tumor had gotten bigger. Instead she walked in and said "I'm sorry, Charmed went into cardiac arrest and he isn't breathing on his own". She asked me if I wanted to try to revive him. I think that was the hardest decision I had to make in caring for Charmed. I had to think what was best for Charmed, not for me. I looked at the vet's face and thought of her key word "try". I burst into tears saying "NO". She told me I had made the right decision. I asked to see him and she said to follow her. She warned me that he was dead but that his reflexes were still making him choke. |
TC & Beauty
She told me that she brought him in and heard a lot of crackling liquid in his lungs and before she could x-ray him he had gone into cardiac arrest. Charmed had left this world for a better place. I knew deep down it was the best thing since he was having trouble breathing but all I could do was cry and ask why and apologize to him for letting him down. The vet who let me stay in a room with him came in to tell me she sees this a lot with FELV cats. They may be healthy with no signs of sickness and by the time they show signs it's really at a late stage and there isn't too much you can do. They let me stay as long as I wanted. I left the hospital with Charmed and a box of tissues. I cried hysterically all the way home. I knew that the oncologist told Diane earlier that it was pretty hopeless but she was willing to try the chemotherapy. I really felt that Charmed would pull through, he had overcome so much and was so healthy. I had always known he could get sick again but I just didn't think it would happen since he had survived so much longer that my Chewy. |
