Loving Touch Inc. - Jamaica Project JAMAICA RESCUE PROJECT - APRIL 2001 This is one of the rescue projects that we have assisted in! |
UPDATE All of the dogs from this area have been adopted or taken in by rescuers. Loving Touch is proud to have been there to help a handful of these dogs. Loving Touch along with many other rescuers participated in helping John (the man who fed and cared for the dogs) with this project. Because there was such a large number of dogs that needed help it was impossible for one rescue group to handle the whole project. With the help of many devoted animal lovers each doing their part every dog was able to be helped. A team effort is what it took to help the dogs say goodbye to the horrible place they once knew as home. THANK YOU ALL!
This is the way these dogs once lived. |
JAMAICA RESCUE PROJECT See The Truly Horrible Conditions These Dogs Live Under Day In And Day Out These are some of the conditions these dogs try to survive under. They rummage for food among rocks, broken glass and filthy conditions. With your help and/or donations we hope to Vet these dogs and help them to trust again so they can know Love, Warmth and Good Health in a loving home. No monetary donation is too small, every penny will help us rescue and rehome more dogs. These dogs were once someone's pet and are wondering what they did to deserve this. Please find it in your heart to help, all of Gods creatures deserve to know love and kindness in their life time. Please contact us ASAP if you can help - Thank you :)

More Dogs Waiting To Be Saved
The dog that looks like Sweetie standing alone is her brother, his name is RED and he actually hangs out in a different area with 5 females and 1 male. He is the leader of his pack. Red is a sweet dog who has been on the street for several years now. He is very adoptable and is just waiting for someone to come along and help him. Red had an owner at one time who would tie him up and make him fight other dogs. When his owner moved he left Red behind and now kids in the area let their pitbulls go after him and fight him. Also the people in the area feed these dogs antifreeze and rat poison hoping to kill them off.
The 3 chow mixes are MAX, TOMMY AND RUSTY. Max is the one with the bad mange. Max and Tommy are brothers who were found in a paper bag when they were only 3 weeks old. They are inseperable and are available for adoption. They are still living on the street and hoping that someone will come along and help them. We are trying out best and hope to find homes for these boys together. RUSTY - is the third chow mix who did have an owner at one time. He owned a transmission shop and when his shop closed down he moved to Florida he left Rusty behind in the street. Rusty is a friendly dog who is an excellent guard dog. These dogs use to stay together with Sweetie by the railroad yards. All 3 dogs are still there until we can help.
RAT - is the dog with the hairless tail that is eating from the ground. He was born in a pile of garbage in a lot. A kind man allows him to stay on his property, however, the owner of that home is not fond of animals and chases him away when he sees him. This poor dog has no shelter in this particular area and pushes his body up against the side of the house to try and stay warm. Rat is still out there waiting to be helped.
SHAGGY - is sitting behind a fence and is a brownish dog.
The large brown dog with black muzzle looking right into the camera is BIG GIRL - she is an Ovtcharka breed. She is the mother of BELLE and BLACKIE. They are the three dogs in the photo where you see the black dog on the left side. Big Girl was given to a man in a tire yard where he kept her in a shack and she had many, many litters of puppies. Big Girl is a beautiful, friendly dog who has a cut off tail and ears. She was recently taken in to be spayed and is doing well. We are getting help from another rescue group for this dog.
BELLE - is the big black dog with a white front leg, was taken in to be spayed and is now back on the street until we can find a good home for her.
Some more of the dogs we are working with. We are trying to get these dogs to trust again so we can rehabilitate them and find them their very own forever homes. Considering the way they have been treated they are very friendly and loving, they only want a home where they can love and be loved. If you can help, please contact US. |
Loving Touch Inc. - Jamaica Project Dogs We Have Helped! |
BUCKWHEAT - was one of our rescues from an area in Jamaica Christmas 1999
Buckwheat was found laying in a pile of garbage in the parking lot of a deli. He had a broken leg and was in pain. At first he was unsure of our intentions and he made it very difficult to help him. After realizing that we were there to help him he came willingly. Buckwheat was taken to an emergency clinic the week of Christmas to have his leg examined. He was put in a cast and we boarded him for the next 6 weeks until his leg could be examined again. It seemed that the cast was put on so well that he didn't need surgery and his
leg healed on its own.
Buckwheat has been ADOPTED and is now living in Manhattan. His new name is Rocky!! |
SWEETIE & ONLY 2 PUPS SURVIVE JAMAICA AREA - MARCH 2001
Sweeties Surviving Puppies
Sweetie - when she was rescued she was not only pregnant and emaciated but she had a broken shoulder and her tail was cut in half. She also has very few teeth in her mouth (probably from
eating whatever was on the ground). When it was her turn to be fed the other dogs would take the food away from her because in order for her to grab the food without any front teeth she would have to lay it on the ground and pick it us with the side of her mouth where she has some teeth. By the time she did that other dogs would steal the food. She was rescued from the Jamaica area in March and was immediately taken in for medical care and we were told that she would be having her pups within the next week or so. She was very weak and there was no way that Sweetie could go under anesthesia at this time so abortion was out of the question. Besides the pups were ready to be born. Within the next 2 weeks Sweetie began delivering her first pup, however, there was a serious problem, hours had passed and Sweetie could not deliver the next pup. She was rushed to the vets office where she was examined and immediately given a c-section. The problem was that the next pup was stuck in the birth canal. Eight puppies were delivered that night, however, they were not in good shape. The staff divided up the pups and took them home for round the clock care and feedings. Sweetie was very weak and was in no shape to nurse her pups. Unfortuntely each day that passed another puppy died. Only 2 puppies survived and they are now in need of loving homes. Sweetie is also in need of a loving home and will make a wonderful pet. If you can help this dog or would like more info on her, please contact us ASAP.
UPDATE - Honey Bear and Sugar Bear have been adopted into loving families. Their foster mom did a wonderful job caring for them and they are now doing well. They are very sweet and affectionate. We will be updating you with stories and photos. |
