Happy Tails : Success Stories For Once In My Life (click for song) |
Prancer - a call came in to one of our volunteers about a dog that was tied to a parking meter on a very busy road in Flushing. They believed that someone found her and tied her there to keep her safe. Our volunteer ran over to pick up the dog. We searched for this beautiful dog's owner but could not find one. After several weeks of boarding we heard of a family in the area that wanted a companion for their male Husky. Prancer joined the family soon after and fit right in. Here she is relaxing in her new home.

Joe - when Joe's owner met us she asked if we would please take Joe into our home and keep him if anything were to happen to her. We agreed but had no idea that Joe would be joining our family so soon. Only months later his owner became very ill and asked if we could please take Joe in so she was sure he would have a home. We did and Josephine passed away shortly after.

AJ - A.J. was found suffed in a paper bag and left with a pile of garbage inside of a Flushing apt. building. Luckily for him someone found him and called us for help. A.J. was partially blind when he was found and that made it difficult to find him a home. A very kind aunt of a fellow rescuer was nice enough to take A.J. into her home and make him part of her family. She loved A.J. and he did very well with her until she became very ill and could not longer care for him. She asked if we would please take him back and keep him with us. We did and A.J. is still with us today.

George & Gracie - (both have crossed over the Rainbow Bridge) were found in a Flushing Parking Garage. They must have been dumped there. We weren't sure what to do with 2 large dogs so they ended up going to a kill shelter with the understanding that if they were not claimed we could get them out. A very kind couple we know were nice enough to offer a foster home for the dogs but after bringing them into their home they decided that they would adopt them. George and Gracie were elderly when they were found so their last few years were difficult. They received lots of love and many, many trips to the vet. They were lucky to have found such a caring family to spend their last years with.

Rocky (a.k.a. Buckwheat) - we received a call from a lady that fed stray cats in the Jamaica area. She said that she saw an injured dog that needed help. Paul asked a fellow rescuer (John) for help with rescuing the dog and they were off. Rocky was found laying in a pile of debis and broken glass. At first it appeared that he might be aggressive but once he saw that he was going to be helped he was fine. He suffered a broken leg and had to wear a cast for several weeks. Rocky was adopted shortly after and now lives in Manhattan with his new dad and a parrot.

Molly was lucky to be rescued when she was found on a busy road on Long Island. Molly is a shy girl that seemed to have been breed several times. In her condition we didn't even bother to look for an owner. It also appeared that she spent her life in a cage by the look of her legs. Molly is now in a wonderful home with a loving family.
ADOPTED | Charlie was a rescue from several years ago. He was just a puppy when he was found in a pile of garbage in the Bronx. His body was covered in mange and he was in a lot of pain. After many visits to the vet and a foster home with a fellow rescuer he was nursed back to health. Charlie is now a big, beautiful dog that has found a wonderful home.
